Niall Watson Attends Westminster

» 20th July 2016

Wednesday 20th July saw Niall Watson, 3rd Year Electrical Apprentice, attended a discussion group on behalf of the ECA with MP’s at the House of Commons in Westminster.

Niall, and apprentices from other sectors, met with Iain Wright MP, Neil Carmichael, Paul Blomfield MP, Chris White MP, Ian Mearns MP and Lucy Frazer MP to talk about their experiences of being an apprentice.

The panel, who sit on the Education, Skills and Economy Select Committee, were keen to hear from apprentices on the practicalities of being an apprentice and what could be improved.

Topics included whether they felt they had received enough positive careers advice about apprenticeships when they were at school, and whether more support was needed in terms of transportation and overnight stays when apprentices are training. The Committee will report on their findings to the Government in the autumn.
