Apprenticeships & Training
DBS are a proud member of The 5% Club, a campaign focused on creating momentum behind the recruitment of apprentices and graduates into the UK workforce. By joining the club, we have committed to the aim of ensuring that 5% of our UK workforce are apprentices, graduates or sponsored students on structured programmes within the next five years.
To find out more information about The 5% Club and how to become a member, please visit www.5percentclub.org.uk
Our current percentage of trainees is 17.6%!
We currently operate two recognised trade apprenticeship programmes:
Mechanical Apprenticeships - NVQ3 - Heating and Ventilation Industrial and Commercial
Electrical Apprenticeships - NVQ3 - Electrotechnical Systems and Equipment
Both of our apprenticeship courses run over 4 years on a block release system meaning that apprentices spend time at college and on site giving them an essential mix of academic and on the job learning.
Apprentices are vital to our business and sustain our future viability. Of a workforce of 200 we have 16 apprentices currently under-going training and 55 who started with us as an apprentice. In addition there are 62 who have completed a recognised apprenticeship within the industry before joining us. Both our Managing Director and Director began their careers as apprentices so understand first-hand how important this form of entry into the workplace is.
The success of our apprenticeship programme can be measured not only by our exceptional levels of staff retention, more than 90% over the last 10 years, but also from the recognition we have received. In 2013 we won the Medium Employer of the Year for companies of between 25 and 249 staff members at the East Midlands Regional Final of the National Apprenticeship Awards for our apprenticeship programme and individually many of our apprentices have won numerous external awards in recognition of their academic abilities.
Each year we take on apprentices for each discipline allowing us to maintain a constant flow of qualified personnel into our work force - if you are interested in an apprenticeship with us please email us with your CV, including your predicted GCSE grades if you haven’t got the results yet, for more information.
