Joanne Lacey shortlisted for Women in Construction Awards 2014

» 25th February 2014

Joanne Lacey, Quantity Surveyor for Derry Building Services, has been shortlisted in the ‘Best Apprentice / New Starter Over 25’ category of the Women in Construction Awards 2014. The awards, now in their 8th year, serve to showcase the most talented female professionals in the UK construction industry as well as the organisations providing the opportunities and training to redress the gender balance in an otherwise male dominated workplace.

Joanne is one of eight whose application now progresses to the expert judging panel who will decide who will be receive this year’s award. The winners will be revealed at the annual gala dinner at the Lancashire County Cricket Ground on Wednesday 26th March 2014.

‘Joanne’s thirst for knowledge and desire to learn is unparalleled within the business. Her enrolment on a Masters Degree, following the completion of her BSc Degree with First Class Honours, and her acceptance as a Member of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) whist continuing to carrying out all of her daily responsibilities as a Quantity Surveyor covering projects nationwide is impressive. However, to do all of this whist also studying towards her Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) which will ultimately lead to full membership with the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) is truly outstanding.

In an industry still regarded as ‘male dominated’ Joanne not only deserves this nomination she personifies the very reason an award of this type exists; to recognise and congratulate the efforts of hard-working, loyal and dedicated individuals who aspire to be the best they can be - we wish her the very best of luck!’
