Lights, Camera, Action

» 1st April 2014

Joe Dudley, Apprentice Electrician for DBS, and Steve Burley, Director, have been trying their hand in front of the camera after being asked to take part in a promotional video for JTL Training.

In an interview, which will form part of a series of case studies on JTL’s new website, Joe was asked to talk about the benefits of an apprenticeship and the support network that has been available to him throughout his training, while Steve talked about the role apprentices had within the business and why he felt they were imperative to the success of the industry as a whole.

Steve Burley, Director of DBS commented;

We have worked with JTL Training for many years and find the support and guidance that they provide to our electrical apprentices invaluable. By monitoring their training, both at college and on-site, they are able to identify any issues swiftly allowing our apprentices to gain the most out of their apprenticeships.

As a company we are committed to training our staff and apprenticeships form an integral part of that training programme. Someone took the chance on me when I was offered an apprenticeship at 16 and I feel very strongly about providing opportunities for other young people.

Joe attended Loughborough College for his academic studies, where he won the Frank Elliott Award in 2012, and is now working there as DBS are completing a project with Willmott Dixon Construction. The project, which is being undertaken on a live site, will consist of two education buildings.

The ‘VPA’ is a two storey building including a large full height theatre space, which DBS are completing the specialist sound and lighting for, with classrooms around the perimeter. The ‘Hub’ is a three storey building, consisting of a large open space in the centre of the ground and first floors with teaching and student enrichment spaces around the perimeter. The third floor will consist of a library, kitchen and dining areas with the two areas being connected via a two storey link area.
