Southwell Racecourse Returns to Full Racing Line Up Ahead of Advertiser Ladies Day

Southwell Racecourse has returned to full working capacity with the help of of B+K Property Services and Derry Building Services following an extensive makeover.

In October 2023 Storm Babet left many of the facilities underwater, by as much as three feet in some areas, with major refurbishment works being required to rectify the damage.

Although racing did return to Southwell in November 2023 heavy restrictions over numbers have been in place with a full return to racing only being celebrated last Friday 2nd August.

Mark Clayton, Southwell’s Executive Director, said:

“It’s been a fantastic effort from all the team at Southwell to get the racecourse back to full working order after the extensive flood damage the racecourse endured.

Originally, we focused on what we needed to for the resumption of racing, which was the track, the stable yard and a temporary weighing room, however, with the refurbishment now complete we are thrilled to be welcoming full crowds back to the track.”

Although Southwell Golf Course has remained open for the majority of this period, the clubhouse had to remain closed due to the flood damaged. These works will be completed this week, with the clubhouse reopening this Saturday 10th August.

The refurbishments have been completed just in time for Southwell to host what is well known as 'the jewel in the Notinghamshire social calender' the Advertiser Ladies Day on Sunday 18th August.

All eyes will be on the new facilities as thousands flock to enjoy a day of glamour, race excitement and toe tapping entertainment by DJ Vernon Kay.
