World Suicide Prevention Day 2024

World Suicide Prevention Day is a global movement focussing on raising awareness of suicide, reducing stigma, and encouraging strategies and actions to prevent suicide.

There are more than 700,000 deaths each year globally. Each suicide has far-reaching social, emotional, and economic consequences, and deeply affects individuals and communities worldwide.

A recent poll carried out by the Samaritans, found that only 45% of people feel comfortable talking to family and friends about suicidal thoughts, compared to 74% who said they feel comfortable talking about mental health.

Talking about difficult feelings, including suicidal thoughts, doesn’t have to be scary and by talking more openly about suicide, we can give people the chance to express how they feel and get the support they need.

Suicide Let’s Talk

Suicide is preventable through education and intervention. There are lots of helpful resources available on the internet designed to help us all become more suicide aware and offering advice on how to support someone experiencing suicide thoughts or behaviour.

Lighthouse - The Construction Charity

Every single working day in our industry 2 construction workers take their own lives. As an industry we need to do more to help and support each other.

The B+K Group have increased our support this year to Lighthouse, the only charity that is 100% dedicated to the emotional, physical and financial wellbeing of construction workers and their families. To find out how they can support you please visit their website.

Remember Don’t be Afraid to Ask

Sometimes the hardest words to say are the most important. Talking about suicide won’t make someone more likely to have suicidal thoughts, but it might just start the conversation that helps them to get the support they need. It might just save a life.
